The following sites offer chances to see a cross-section of Jordan's rich and varied bird life in a variety of easily accessible habitats.
Some more information about these sites can be found in articles available on this website.
Full details of these (and many other) sites, including maps and key species, are available in The Birds of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The section on Wadi Dana is currently available on-line.
Remember, however, that Jordan is still relatively unexplored as a birdwatching destination and new sites doubtless await discovery. Some additional sites to those already published are available on-line. In addition, Taylor & Howard (1999) Jordan: walks, treks, caves, climbs & canyons (ISBN 1 85284 278 4, published by Cicerone Press, Milnthorpe, Cumbria) give full details of many excellent walks and treks in the Pella, Ajlun, Moab, Dana, Petra and Rum areas of Jordan - all of which offer superb opportunities to explore for birds in largely unexplored areas of the country.
Aqaba Sewage Works
The following NASA photographs show the localition of the sewage works in Aqaba - a useful feature, as they are not plotted on any maps.

Crossing from Eilat to Aqaba
The following is copied from a trip report by Teus Luijendijk (March/April 1999):
"We set out from Eilat early in the morning, just to be in time at the Aqaba border station just outside town. There we found out we could have crossed the border even earlier, since the summer clock had become active exactly during the night before. The border station opens at 06:30 h. Going through all the necessary formalities takes time, much time.... And it costs quite dearly, too: NIS 63 for leaving Israel, JD 11 (for dutch people, that is; for e.g., belgian people it is JD 21) for an entrance visa for Jordan, a few JD more for some kind of tax and upon your return JD 4 for leaving Jordan again.... But when you are finally through, you will find yourself on an empty road with nothing more than a few taxis that will bring you to Aqaba town. Cost about JD 4 (JD 1 = approx. GBP 0.90). In Aqaba, we couldn't get ourselves a rental car, so we persuaded a taxi driver to bring us to Wadi Rum (and wait for us to bring us back again) for JD 25. This was quite a good deal, I guess, though our driver did some attempts to charge us more, which we of course neglected."
If anyone else with experience of making this crossing in the last 6 months would like to get in touch, I will post any relevant information on this site.
